United Nations: each third woman in the world is a victim of violence (Part 3)
Written on 30 November 2007 by adminExperts of the United Nations emphasize, that the violence concerning women is made worldwide. It takes various forms: rape, murder of female babies, constraint to prostitution and early marriages, the murder made “in protection of honor”, and mutilating operations on female genitals. Each third woman becomes a victim of rape or the rough handling. Annually five thousand women become victims of the murders made by members of the families in the name of “honor protection”.
Thus it is marked, that some states till now are unable to recognize the certain kinds of violence as crimes. “Cultural and religious directions still justify tortures, murders of women, and also mutilation of their genitals”, - has declared special lecturer Jakin Ertiurk.
Very often violence concerning women is considered as a family matter, instead of a ground for criminal prosecution, informs SouthAsia.OneWorld.net.
Let’s add, that 6 years ago only each fifth woman in the world, according to the United Nations, was a subject to violence.
In 1999 the General Assembly of the United Nations for the first time has declared November, 25 as an International day of struggle for liquidation of violence concerning women.
The date was chosen not accidentally. On November, 25, 1960 in Dominican Republic were brutally killed political activists- sisters Mirabal (Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa).
