Bulgarian physicians have been remitted
27 July 2007The President of Bulgaria George Parvanov has signed the decree about presidential clemency of five Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor, convicted in Libya for the life-term, informs AFP.
The decree of the Bulgarian leader marks, that the President “expresses belief in innocence of the medical workers” and according to the powers authorized by the Constitution of the country, pardons them.
On Tuesday, July, 24, the plane of the president of France has delivered physicians from Tripoli to Sofia. Since 1999 the Libyan court has twice condemned to death penalty nurses and the Palestinian doctor charged of infection of children with AIDS; however in July, 2007 the Supreme legislative council of Libya has changed a verdict to the life-term.
After reimbursement to families of the children in one million dollars on each child and promises of the French president Nikolia Sarkozee to modernize hospital in Bengasi where the condemned worked, Libyan authorities have agreed to deport physicians home.
