Marihuana is no more a kid stuff

6 August 2007

The British authorities have made the decision to move out marihuana from soft drugs group (С) and define it as a more strong narcotic (В), declared Prime-Minister of the country, Gordon Brown.
Along with this procedure British legislature will toughen punishment for storage of preparations which contain this substance. The question about the sanctions against smokers of the weed will be from now under the jurisdiction of the Albion’s Home Office. As it is known, in February, 2004 British authorities passed the law, which moved this drug from class B to class C. In 2005 Home Secretary of that time Charles Clark raised the question on returning to marihuana the status of a stronger drug. But such amendments had not been done.
And now Gordon Brown informed, that this question is being discussed in the Cabinet, and they have made a decision to review in the whole Britain’s strategy concerning struggle against drugs. Next week the head of the British Home Office Jack Smith will put forward the report on this question.
“Home Secretary will make a request to express opinion of the public on new ways of informing on drugs harm, and how to support people who undergo treatment and how to support communities which want to get rid of drugs distributors in their environment”, - added the Prime-minister.
