Russia took pity on the British diplomats

19 July 2007

The British embassy in Moscow would lose 80 diplomats if Moscow resorted to the same actions, as did London, which has declared exile of four employees of the Russian Mission in connection with Alexander Litvinenko’s case, declared Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko.
Moscow’s reaction to the actions of the British authorities will be address and adequate and will not touch interests of common citizens and business circles, assured Grushko.
In opinion of the Russian diplomat, actions of the Great Britain will complicate or make impossible cooperation of two countries in the safety area.
The British side will be informed about the Russian authorities’s actions in the nearest future, emphasized the deputy minister.
On July, 17, Russian ambassador in London Jury Fedotov was presented the diplomatic note with a list of measures having been taken by the British side in connection with refusal of Russia to extradite Lugovoy.
Earlier the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation has condemned politicization of Litvinenko’s case by the British side and called to solve all questions in a legal way.
