Activity of the Russian intelligence services in the USA reached Cold war level
8 June 2007Activity of the Russian intelligence services in the USA ” is again at a level of the Cold war, but this is “normally” and does not prevent the Russian-American cooperation including intelligence sphere, said Director of the US State Counterspionage Department Joel Brenner.
“Russian espionage against the USA has returned on a normal level in comparison with the ninetieth years”, - declared Brenner on air of National public radio.
Explaining growth of such activity, first of all, by strengthening of Russian economic opportunities, the head of the American counterspionage does not view anything unusual as” there are about 140 intelligence services in the world and almost all of them consider USA as a target number one”.
The information on energization of Russian spies in the USA has confirmed in the interview to radio station the former head of FBI intelligence department David Szeidy who headed this structure during 2001-2006.
Making comments on this matter at the request of the radio station, the president of Washington Nixon political science center Dmitry Saims declared, that such activity starts to negatively effect on cooperation of special services. Thus he referred to the words of one high-ranking Russian officer: “Americans pretend, that share with us the intelligence information, and we pretend to use it in our work”.
