ETA declared the termination of armistice with the Spanish authorities
6 June 2007Basque nationalist organization has declared the termination of armistice with the Spanish government from Wednesday, June, 6.
In the message published by the Basque newspaper Berria, the organization forbidden by the authorities declares about “absence of the minimal conditions for negotiating process continuation”.
March 22, 2006 ETA has declared a “permanent ceasefire” after nearly 40 years fighting for independence from Spanish and French authorities. Even after an explosion at the Madrid airport in December organization confirmed, that the armistice remains in force.
After that explosion the Spanish socialist’s government has stopped peace talks.
In promulgated in Tuesday, June, 5, ETA statement it is said that since Wednesday they are going to defend Basque Homeland “with the weapon and at all fronts”.
Observers fear, that this statement means an inevitability of new large ETA actions.
For four decades of ETA struggle for creation of the independent state in the north of Spain and southwest of France more than 800 people became victims of this organization.
