The phone conversation at the wheel is punished by the law
17 May 2007Washington State governor Kris Gregoir has ratified the law which forbids the drivers to talk at the wheel over the mobile phone without special devices, and also to write short messages.
The law comes into force since January, 1, 2008 according SMS exchange and as regards the mobile conversations - since July, 1, 2008. The infringers of this law will be fined 101 dollars.
There are, certainly, some exceptions from this law. The question is about threat of a life and safety of citizens. In such cases drivers will be allowed to neglect new rules. The law also forbids the police to detain the drivers caught in talking over a phone.
New Jersey legislators are going to pass the similar law in the nearest future.
