Virginia Governor has amended the law on the weapon sale
4 May 2007The governor of Virginia Timothy Kain has issued the decree according to which there is an obligatory record about mental problems in the personal file of the person in case if the court recognizes him as an insane person and dangerous - irrespective of the kind of treatment, out-patient or in a hospital.
This decree does not need ratification in a legislature.
As the governor has declared in the interview to journalists, it has closed a gap in the law which has allowed the student from South-Korea to get weapon, which he used April, 16 to kill 32 persons in students’ hostels of Virginia Tech University.
Medical examination determined that Cho had mental disorder. However, as he was treated on an outpatient basis and was not sent to a hospital, the court decision was not fixed in his personal file, which according to the law, weapon sellers check.
