Bush wants to expand special services powers on foreigners shadowing
26 April 2007George Bush administration has directed to the Congress the requirement to expand powers of the special services of the country on “intelligence shadowing” over foreign citizens and interception of foreigners` communications on the USA territory, The Washington Post informed.
“White House suggests to expand a circle of the potential purposes for supervision, having included to them persons who are not US citizens, who can transfer or receive the important foreign intelligence information, and also the persons who are involved in activity concerning weapon of mass destruction”, - the edition writes.
According to The Washington Post, the offer of the Administration assumes also, that private telecommunication companies and Internet-providers will be obliged to cooperate with US special services and will be protected by the law from any claims in connection with such cooperation.
American whistle-blowers have flayed White House position, declared, that they are trying to exceed the limits of the law on the plea of protection of citizens and their civil rights.
