Death penalty is going to be recalled in New Jersey: people are against

13 December 2007

The Senate of American State of New Jersey has voted for a cancellation of death penalty which will be replaced with life imprisonment, for especially dangerous criminals - without the right of early release.

Thus, New Jersey becomes the first for the last 30 years American State which will abolish death penalty, informs The Independent.

For coming into force the decree should be approved by the Main assembly and the governor of the State. There should not any difficulties: democrats, who lead in the Assembly, oppose death penalty, and the governor for a long time has been known as the active opponent of such preventive punishment.

Inhabitants of New Jersey are not in delight from the change of the extreme penalty in the State. 78 % of respondents have supported death sentences to the most severe criminals.

Now death penalties are practiced in 31 of 50 American States. In 2006 6 countries (USA, Iraq, Iran, China, Sudan and Pakistan) accounted for 91 % of the executions in the world.
