The Italian has shot the wife to alleviate her sufferings

The 77-years-old Italian has shot in a ward his wife, who was ill with primary neuronal degeneration. The murder has taken place in physicians’ presence.

This incurable illness which leads to brain degeneration, dementia and then to death, has been diagnosed eight years ago when she was 74.

On Saturday at about 17:30 local time the husband entered the hospital of city Prato, where was a patient, went to a ward, took out a pistol and shot the spouse in personnel’s presence.

After that the man put the weapon in a corner of the room and waited for policemen. When he was arrested, the Italian told, that could not bear any more sufferings of the wife.

According to experts, from 2 up to 5 % of people after 65 years and up to 20 % of those who are 85 and elder suffer from primary neuronal degeneration.
