Germany introduces passports with finger-prints
5 November 2007Since November, 1 German authorities have introduced the new passport (the passport for travel) with electronic finger-prints of the owner.
Germany, thus, is the first of the EU member-states, which has introduced the exit document with the full biometric data of its citizens. The government of the country grounds an innovation as a protection measure from forged passports, and also it is directed against terrorists’ penetration into the country.
German citizens coming back from the countries, which are not parties to the Schengen Agreement, will be now identified not only by introduced two years ago biometric photo and a chip with other biometric data, but also by thumb-prints of the right and left hand made on the special device.
Human right experts and representatives of opposition criticize the innovation, calling it is a step to liquidation of private life inviolability.
As it was informed, in 2009 the new system of granting visas in the EU takes effect. Interested persons to visit the EU member-states will give their finger-prints.
