Hundreds of Dutchs have spoken up for hallcinogenic mushrooms

1 November 2007

At the end of the last week in Amsterdam some hundreds people have gathered at a city central square to express their disagreement with plans of the government to forbid sale of fresh hallcinogenic mushrooms.

An intention to forbid the sale of fresh hallcinogenic mushrooms has appeared after several accidents with tourists who have used mushrooms. However opponents of an interdiction assert that this measure can cause illegal distribution of mushrooms.

According to the author of the book about hallcinogenic mushrooms Arno Adelaars, there should be just more information. “Difficulties have only foreigners, while Dutchmen are well informed”, - explained an activist.

On an appeal of a site “Rescue mushrooms!” about 30 thousand people have directed electronic letters to the Cabinet or to parliamentary factions with an appeal to protect mushrooms. Sale of dry hallcinogenic mushrooms in Holland has been forbidden already for a long time.
