Authorities of Bratislava have forbidden drinking alcoholic drinks in downtown

29 October 2007

Authorities of Slovakia’s capital Bratislava on October, 26 have made the decision to forbid drinking of alcoholic drinks in historical city centre.

The new law will come into force in November. Its infringers will be fined by policemen. The sum of the penalty for drinking will make one thousand Slovak crones (about 30 euros, 42 dollars). Now it is forbidden to drink alcoholic drinks only near schools, churches and the presidential palace in Bratislava.

Bratislava traditionally attracts European tourists because of combination of cheap beer and inexpensive air tickets. Prewedding parties in Slovakian capital are especially popular.

Many EU countries have already forbidden drinking of alcoholic drinks outside specially intended places. Slovakia has entered the European Union in May, 2004.
