Americans were sentenced to imprisonment for porno-spam mailing
19 October 2007Two Americans who have sent some millions of electronic letters with links to porno-sites to various addressees, are sentenced to imprisonment for the term of more than five years.
This is the first verdict within the framework of the federal law directed on suppression of spam.
41-years old Jeffrey Kilbride and James Shaffer began to send spam four years ago. They bought up e-mail addresses and sent on them links to porno-sites, receiving the commission for an amount of visitors to these sites through their messages.
For nine months of 2004 they and their accomplice have sent more than 600 thousand letters, and for all time of their activity they have earned more than two millions dollars. After adoption of anti-spam law, they continued to send message through Amsterdam servers, however Public Prosecutor’s Office has found that the mailing was carried out from the city of Phoenix, state Arizona.
In June spammers were accused of organization of the criminal community, money-laundering, swindle and transfer of pornographic materials. Besides the prison term, they should pay 1,3 million dollars as a penalty.
